Aaron & I are driving through Las Vegas right now, on our way to Utah for the Tanner family reunion this Saturday.
The kids are kicking it, in our super comfy and quiet van, watching Popeye cartoons. We're Facebooking with friends and family via Blackberry.
So, Aaron said to me a minute ago, "Our kids sure have it good. Can you image if WE had a TV in the car when we were kids?".
Yes, I know they have it good. All I had on this drive as a kid was bugs in my teeth and a kink in my back. Once, so everyone could lay down in the VW Rabbit, I was stuck on top of sleeping bags behind Mom & Dad's seats w/my sisters feet by my head. Choice. That was better than the 3 of us sitting next to one-another, though, because then our bodies would get so stiff that it was hard to stand up straight when it was time for pit stops. LOL! Good times. I really did love it! No A/C for fear of the car overheating! LOL.
Why did it take 16 hours to get to SLC in the 70's, when it only takes 10 hours now? I think we drove on a different road. Hwy 14, or Route 66? I remember it had a tons of little hills on the road. That was a cool feeling when we had the boat. Remember "The Boat"? The white wagon w/wood siding. It was so styling: We loved the new 8 Track in it!
Enough reminiscing--our kids are so lucky. They have no idea. :)
STOPPED OVERNIGHT IN ST. GEORGE: We ran around town a bit with the Wilkes family, went to the Dinosaur museum, and then got on our way to SLC. So cool... we ran into the Brown's on the interstate to SLC, we were going in opposite directions. What are the odds?
JOSEPH SMITH TANNER FAMILY REUNION: Uncle Bill planned an amazing get-together, and introduced the new family history books to be finished this Christmas 2009. Thank you Uncle Bill!!! Also, we saw a preview of the new movie about John Tanner, due to be finished this Christmas as well. It was awesome.
BBQ @ THE MUMFORD'S: After the reunion we visited our friends at their new home near the U. They recently moved from LA to SLC. We were so happy to see them, and the kids had a blast. Such fun.
LAST DAY IN UTAH: Went to church in Centerville w/our cousins, the Ford's, Andrew just returned from his mission and spoke in Sacrament meeting. So happy we could be there. Met at their home after church--good time visiting with everyone, then headed home. Looking forward to coming back again in a few weeks for the Rock'n R Ranch reunion. :)
