Planter Box Project

Okay, so you know we moved this summer. Renovation projects are still underway, but with the holidays here, I thought I should give the front entry a little attention. I painted the front door and gate, changed the house wall lights, got a coir front door mat, and now want to add a planter box to make the entry more inviting. I really like the planter boxes at Versailles and they are out of my price range to buy, ranging from $600 to $1000... I'm sure they are worth every penny. I just don't want to spend my pennies on planter boxes.

Here's a photo of my inspiration, the Versailles Orange Tree Planter Box.
So cool with it's removable sides for root trimming!!!
I didn't go that far today. Maybe next time?!

So, here is my photo journal of a
$40 attempt to recreate a look I love...

Just out of the car from Home Depot.
Found this redwood planter for $14 and
5 gal. Boxwood bush for $20.

Before Shot, Front Entry
This is the spot I want the planter to sit at.

Project Supplies.
Not listed here is the Cabot Marine Varnish & Potting Soil :)

I couldn't find decorative feet, so I settled for $2 non-skid risers.
They screwed in easily because Redwood is super soft.
These will protect the bottom of the planter from water damage.

$3 Wood Applique
I love using these on wood projects that a a bit flat.
They add so much!
Adhere with a small amount of clear caulking.

$20 Wood Finials
I really prefer acorn finials, but I didn't much to select from & I want to get this finished.
These are fine.

After Shot - The Boxwood is trimmed and will grow much bigger with time.
I am interested to see what it will look like a year from now.

Finished Planter Box, in place on my front porch.
A bench & another planter box are coming next!
TIP: I add clear watering crystals to the soil, because I often forget to water potted plants. :)
