So we've been trying to do a better job of daily scripture study at home. A friend suggested we read together as a family at the dinner table and it's working exceedingly well. Each night after dinner, Dad (since he eats so fast and finished before everybody) reads (ideally) one chapter from the Book of Mormon.
Last night we read Nephi 13, and we had a remarkable session. We started by asking the children to recall the previous night's reading, which had to do with portions of the gospel removed from the Bible during the Apostasy. Maxwell remembered right away, and gave and excellent summary of what this removal meant to Heavenly Father's church.
The chapter ends with a recitation of Christ's powerful admonition that "the last shall be first, and the first shall be last," which prompted a very insightful conversation between Natalie and Max about the fundamental fairness and justice inherent in Heavenly Father's Plan of Salvation. For children at their ages, seeking to understand the purpose of sacrifice and right choices, this lesson brought a special insight. Understanding that the choice to do what's right, even as others who choose poorly may be rewarded, will be equalized and brought into balance; and one will be made whole by the Father in His own time. The children truly understood the concept and demonstrated their faith in it. It was a beautiful moment to share as a family.
Natalie also brought up the subject of repentance, and her questions about how it occurs. We were able to discuss it in a clear and compelling way, such that she understood more fully the process of repentance and its reliance on the Atonement. She even thought of a few things she needed to repent of (like taking candy from the kitchen without permission)! What a sweetheart she is!
So, all in all, we are very blessed to be able to study the scriptures together as a family, and are exeriencing the blessing of the Spirit in our home together.

You guys are awesome! It is so wonderful to watch your family grow in the gospel. Thanks for sharing, that idea is great.
What a great post. We too, have our scripture study after dinner and it flows so much better. Stomachs are full, homework is done, and it just seems like the perfect way to end an evening.
